Great Reunion 2009

Connecting Central and South East European Youth – A Review on the Long Term Effects of International Youth Exchanges

The Seminar brought together around 50 people, most of them young adults, from eight Central and Southeast European countries - Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Poland and Serbia - for four days in Vukovar in Croatia. All participants had been involved, either as youth participants, team counselors, workshop leaders or organizers, in international youth exchanges with/around the German NGO CAMPUS15 - Youth goes for Peace. The exchanges took place between 1998 and 2008: eight Summer Camps in Germany, four Reunion Camps in Western Balkan countries, one Training Course in Germany (2005) and one Evaluation Meeting in Montenegro (2008). This means that CAMPUS15 and its partners so far and due to the various Youth Programmes of the European Union were able to bring together more than 350 youth and young adults.

The overriding objective for this effort was and still is to promote peace and mutual understanding among the various groups in the Western Balkans in cooperation with young people from Central Europe and to help those countries on their way to the European Union. With the Seminar the promoters wanted to find out about the long term effects of such a decade of youth work and to exchange experiences, based on information the former participants made available during the seminar and in the preparation phase for it. Further projects and the support by the Youth in Action programme were discussed.
